How To Stick To Your New Year's Resolutions
Hello 2019! And hello to a bunch of new year’s resolutions you will probably stick to for about three weeks, a month maximum, right? Wrong! Only a mere 8% of people stick to their new year’s resolutions, while the rest of us? We continue to set the same goals over and over again. Sound like you? Don’t let it happen again! Read on for some simple tips to help you achieve your goals this year.
Planning is key!
Don’t just write down your goals, break them down into smaller goals and steps for how you are going to get there. Losing 10kgs can seem like a hard goal to achieve, but aiming for 1kg a month for the next year is a piece of cake!
Take it one step at a time
Don’t expect to change 10 habits at once, instead, try and focus on 1-2 goals at a time for guaranteed results.
Don’t expect to change your habits or see results straight away. No matter what your goal, it will take time. If you want to wake up earlier, try getting up 10 - 15 minutes earlier at a time, rather than going from an 8am wakeup to a 6am start in a day.
Track your progress
The second best thing behind achieving your goals is seeing how much progress you are making. Take advantage of apps like Momentum and Habit Hub to keep you motivated.
Get an accountability partner
Find a friend or family member that you can rely on for motivation and encouragement. Whether it’s going for a run, cutting out sugar or spending less time on your phone, it’s great to have someone there who can support you in achieving your goals.
Forgive yourself and move on
If you have a few cheat meals or miss a few workouts don’t give up. Accept that you may have indulged a little more than you would have liked and move on.
Good luck! You will be thankful you started this time next year.
