5 Stretches To Do In The Morning
Stretching in the morning is one of the best things you can do to effectively set your body up for the day. Improving circulation, relieving tension and increasing your heart rate are just a few of the benefits of stretching when you wake up. When we wake up in the morning, our muscles are naturally stiff and tight. Going through a series of stretches will help wake up each part of your body.
Give these stretches a go tomorrow morning. Each pose should be held for around 30 seconds.
A simple upwards reaching stretch is a great first stretch after getting out of bed. Clasp your hands together above your head and lengthen through the body.
Lie on the bed or the floor with arm stretched out horizontally to either side. Bend your legs and roll them over to one side. At the same time, rotate your head to face the other direction. Repeat on the other side.
Sit on the bed and stretch your legs straight out in front of you. Lean over your legs and stretch out your arms towards your feet, resting your head on your knees. Make sure your foot is flexed during this stretch.
Move onto your hands and knees. Ensure that your hands are positioned under your shoulders and your knees under your hips, shoulder-width apart. Inhale and draw your tummy to the floor and lift your chest and chin, looking to the ceiling. Exhale, round your back, and draw it towards the ceiling. Bring your head in, looking towards your tummy.
Finally, finish your stretches with child's pose. Start on your hands and knees. Spread your knees out keeping your feet touching and rest your bottom on your feet. Rest your chest and forehead on the ground. Keep your arms relaxed by your side with your palms facing up or extend them over your head facing your palms down on the bed.
