How To Choose The Perfect Nude Lipstick For Your Skin Tone
You can’t go wrong with a nude lip. Whether it’s a night out, a day at the office or a casual catch up, a nude lip is super flattering and will compliment any outfit. But when it comes to finding your go-to shade, choosing one to match your skin tone can prove quite difficult and will require some serious experimentation. You don’t want to wash out your complexion and you definitely don’t want to run the risk of looking like you have applied foundation all over your lips. So how do you choose the right nude lipstick for your skin tone? We’ve put together the ultimate guide for choosing the perfect colour every time.
The perfect nude is generally a balance of both warm and cold tones, but to figure out which end of the spectrum you are on you first need to identify your undertone. You can do this by looking at the veins on the inside of your wrist. If your veins appear green, you have a warm undertone but if they seem blue then you have a cool undertone. The idea is to choose a lipstick shade that is similar to your undertone, so it complements your complexion and doesn’t clash with it.
Once you have established your undertone, you need to consider your skin shade. But keep in mind, a shade recommended for someone with fair skin may be perfect for a warm undertone but too light for someone with a cool undertone. Considering both these factors will help you find the shade of nude that is right for you.
When it comes to those with fair skin, opting for a pink shade will add some warmth to your complexion and will enhance your natural lips. We recommend sticking to light pinks and rosy nudes. If you are looking to tone down your natural lip colour a light beige shade will do the trick.
Medium skin tones have a bit more choice when it comes to choosing a nude shade of lipstick. Look for one that is one shade lighter or darker than your skin tone but isn’t too similar. We love rose, peach and pinks. Beige and caramel colours will also look great too!
If you have an olive complexion, peach undertones will look gorgeous on your skin. Golden beige shades, taupes and caramels can also enhance your complexion, but be sure to avoid anything that is too yellow.
For those with a dark complexion, we love chocolate browns, pinks, rose browns and berry tones. Look for a shade that is one or two tones lighter than your skin colour, but steer clear from those that are too much lighter. Avoid any lipstick with a grey tone.
Our main advice? Trial and error. If you head to an makeup store or chemist you will be able to try before you buy!
